TSAC Virtual Capitol Day
April 5, 2011
We need you!

The Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition (TSAC) is organizing a Virtual Capitol Day for April 5th.  Please join us for this important event.  Now is the time to mobilize your board members, families, residents, and community supporters.  We need thousands of constituents from across the state to send the collective message:  Don’t Cut Medicaid Funding for Long-Term Care.  Every State House and Senate member needs to have their office contacted during this day---a powerful reminder of the breadth and depth of opposition to cutting programs that assist our families and loved ones.

We need your help to make the Virtual Capitol Day a reality.

1. Organize: Contact families, staff, board members and other parties alerting them to the April 5 Virtual Capitol Day.  This is crucial.  Get the word out as soon as possible.

2. Develop a list of legislators to contact:  Go to this website to identify your state elected officials:  http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/

3. Personalize your message: Talk about your community, how many jobs your organization creates, the number of residents you serve, and if you know the rank of employment you have in your county.

4. Tell Others:  This campaign is based on word of mouth.  It is CRUCIAL that you tell others.  We need thousands of contacts to legislative offices on April 5.

5. Engage Legislative Offices on April 5:  Hold letter writing campaigns a week before April 5, call legislative offices on April 5, send e-mails on April 5, fax letters to legislative office, and get the message out. If you plan to mail letters, have them arrive by April 5 (handwritten letters are very effective)

6. Alert TSAC After April 5:  Once you have completed the event:  We want to know who participated. Let David Thomason, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it know that you made legislative contacts and how many messages were sent.

Senior Day 2011 is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions older adults have made and will continue to make to the State of Texas.  The event will begin with a rally on the front steps of the Capitol at 10:30 AM.

After the rally, attendees will have lunch on their own and visit with their elected officials on issues they are concerned about. The emphasis will be on programs and funding of programs for older adults.

Local groups and individuals will need to organize their own transportation, pack a lunch or have lunch in the Capitol cafeteria (can be a long wait) or a nearby restaurant.
